Do big domain sellers ever stop renewing their domains? [on hold]

There are many companies out there who register tons of domains that they have no plans to use except for trying to sell them for a ridiculously high price. One domain name in particular was registered in year 2000 and hasn't been in use since then other than as a temporary redirect website for about a month (when checking web.archive.org). It makes me furious that this behaviour has not been outlawed yet.

I wonder if it's even worth to wait for a .com domain to expire anymore? Do you have any success stories to share?
